___________
The Current State of Richmond's Children:
Presented by Chris Duggan
The Human Early Leaning Partnership (HELP) collects data through the Early Development Instrument and other Child Development Monitoring System Tools to provide an insight into the social, emotional, physical health and wellbeing, communication, language and cognitive development of children in BC. This presentation will provide an overview of the Wave 8 data, which comprises data collected through 2019–2022.
Supporting Families: Response, Resources and Referral:
Presented by Richmond Supported Childhood Consultants
Richmond has a wide range of supports and resources to support families and children who may be experiencing vulnerability, who may benefit from support to participate in a community program or child care facility, or whose development may be outside what is expected. This presentation will provide an overview of steps child care providers and families can take to understand and learn about their child’s strengths, needs and development and highlight the resources available to provide additional support.
Nurturing in Nature:
Presented by Emily Vera and Kate Dawson
Spending time outdoors in nature significantly supports children in all areas of their development. In this presentation, we will consider the many benefits of spending quality time outdoors as a component of your Early Childhood program. As Coordinators of Terra Nova Nature School, Kate Dawson & Emily Vera will share their learnings and observations, as well as offer practical suggestions to implement in your centre.
Supporting Children’s Outdoor Play in the Early Years:
Presented by Rachel Ramsden
Research is clear on the importance of regular and repeated access to outdoor play in the early years. Despite the known benefits of outdoor play, children in North America are spending less time outdoors. This presentation will outline the importance of outdoor play and how small modifications to outdoor environments can further support children’s outdoor play. This presentation will showcase recent research from the Play Outside UBC Lab.
