City of Richmond updates and expands the Recreation Fee Subsidy Program

Apply now for the newly expanded and updated City of Richmond's Recreation Fee Subsidy Program. The program will be available to people of all ages beginning this Fall and provides qualified Richmond residents with free admission to many drop-in programs and services as well as a 90% discount for eligible registered programs.

Beginning this Fall, the City of Richmond is expanding the Recreation Fee Subsidy Program (RFSP) to all qualified Richmond residents who are experiencing financial hardship, including children, youth, adults and seniors. The goal of the RFSP is to ensure all Richmond residents are able to access the many recreational and cultural opportunities the City offers, regardless of their financial situation. 

Families are invited to apply now for financial support to participate in a wide variety of cultural, sport and recreational activities and programs. For those who qualify, the Recreation Fee Subsidy Program (RFSP) will provide:

Free admission to many drop-in programs and services, including:

  • Public swimming at Aquatic Centres
  • Public skating at Arenas (including skate rentals)
  • Fitness centres, sport open gyms, and parent-and-tot open gyms at one community centre of the participant’s choice, and
  • Pitch and putt golf at the West Richmond Pitch and Putt (including golf club rentals)

And, a 90% discount for eligible registered programs:

  • Up to a maximum of $300/year in subsidy for children and youth, and
  •  Up to a maximum of $100/year in subsidy for adults and seniors

New RFSP Application are now available online at www.richmond.ca/subsidy and at City of Richmond community centres, pools, arenas, the Richmond Cultural Centre and Richmond City Hall. Starting July 25th, approved families and individuals may start using subsidy credits toward registration for programs starting in Fall 2018. Approved participants will be able to access free admission to eligible drop-in programs and services beginning September 4th. 

Please note that in order to access the benefits of the new RFSP, all current subsidy clients who were approved under the old system must re-apply using the new subsidy application form.
